How to Measure Moving Picture Resolution

Resolution of Flat Panel Displays has been commonly described in pixels, although the number of pixel of the panel and how it really looks is dependent on the characteristics of the panel type especially in displaying moving picture as in TV programs.
APDC developed a method of measuring and evaluating moving picture display performance in a scale that is close to human vision. This method allows quantitative analysis of resolution which is closely related to the number of pixels of the panel for moving picture.

The measurement simulates human eye system to reconstruct the image which is to be reflected on retina, and quantitatively evaluates the actual resolution which the display can describe. It measures the resolution of moving picture in a way how it really looks in "TV lines" or "deterioration ratio against still picture resolution (%).

-	Make a follow shot on the resolution chart scrolling on the display.

-	Read the resolution scale at the limit point where　the pattern can be recognized.
-	The resolution, given at the typical speed of "five seconds per screen", is defined as representative value of Moving Picture Resolution. We propose to the Full HD TV manufacturing / sales companies to widely use this indication so that the consumers can easily understand the Moving picture resolution of each display.

The performance of PDP advanced significantly as the market grew rapidly in the 21st century.
