PDP has a very advanced brightness control technology to minimize visual fatigue.
For example, PDP will pick up the bright area in the screen and display that part in high brightness. If the screen is all white, it will decrease brightness to 1/5. This is why PDP is gentle on the eyes and will minimize the chance of visual disorder even after watching a long movie.
Although the display characteristics of PDP and LCD are very different, they require accurate brightness control to minimize visual fatigue and over exposure.
As a result of comparing PDP-TV and LCD TV, LCD-TV viewer group's grading vision deteriorated after watching LCD-TV. Whereas PDP-TV viewer group's vision did not deteriorate, LCD-TV viewer's vision deteriorated gradually and did not recover completely after a break. Thus LCD-TV can be said to strongly affect the viewer's vision.
As a result of comparing the viewer's subjective symptom of eye tiredness, the experiment statistically confirmed that the number of those who claimed tiredness increased with time in the LCD viewer group.
(F(5,40)=11.305,p<.001) Since the tiredness recovers after approximately 30 minutes break, this symptom of tired eyes can be said to be caused by watching LCD-TV. On the contrary, although few claimed tired eyes before watching, the change in such symptom was not observed in the PDP viewer group. This corresponds with the result of the grading vision and indicates in symptoms as well that LCD-TV affects eye tiredness.
